Selecting the Right Rat Cage
What we look for most in a rat cage is:
**1/2" bar spacing (any larger and ratties could escape, unless they are very large ratties)**
**Multiple levels for ratties to travel vertically**
**A solid cage floor, enough space for cage furniture, hammocks, and toys**
**Powder-coated wire**
**Ease of cleaning**
**Although we really prefer solid shelf cages over wire shelf cages (which should always have 1/2" by 1/2" spacing or smaller), they can be more difficult to keep clean, the shelves should be wiped down everyday as urine can pool on the shelves**
You'll find that we may have some pros and cons for certain cages. It's tough to find a perfect rat cage, sometimes you have to weigh the good and the bad, and choose what will best fit your ratties and you.
